| I have watched this debate (or lack of it) with interest.
We live in a constitutional monarchy of |
| unequal parts (ie the U.K.) |
|
| In other countries that have regional or provincial
government, devolved responsibilities |
| are clear and equal, this allows for both proper central
planning and set parameters for |
| effective local divergence (and equal rights for citizens
in a constitutional framework |
| it also strengthens both local and national identity
ie Canada/provinces, Australia/states USA/states). |
| England, Scotland, Wales and N Ireland should all get
equally devolved powers - we will then know |
| what the UK stands for! |
|
| The current situation in Wales is a mess - people are
confused as to who is responsible for what, |
| with some justification it can be argued Wales has worst
of all worlds accountability in Cardiff |
| and power without accountability in London. |
|
| Wales needs a parliament similar to Scotland with clearly
defined responsibilities. We cannot have |
| effective joined up social policies with issues such
as policing being driven in London and education, |
| health, Housing in Cardiff. |
|
| Equality in treatment of Home Nations will strengthen
and not divide U.K. Inequality may well lead |
| to its eventual collapse and slow disintegration. |
|
| This is a non political but common sense view from a
balanced ordinary member of the public whose |
| views frequently fail to get heard or reflected by political
parties. |
|
| My details have been withheld as I hold a position which
does not allow me to express political |
| views. |
|
| Many thanks - best of luck with review |
